Tsampazi-Athanasiou Fani
Nurse at the Municipal Hospital. The only victim of the "Dragon’s" attacks who comes face to face with him and, for a brief moment, speaks with him before he attacks her as well, after he has already murdered her roommate and friend Melpomeni Patrikiou. Tsampazi testifies under oath in court that Pagratidis is 99% NOT the Dragon.
"Many times I say 'could it be him', but at a rate of 1%, and even that due to the influence of rumors."
She further testifies that she agreed to identify Pagratidis as the "Dragon" while he was being held at the Thessaloniki Police station, following an arrangement with the deputy state prosecutor Athanasopoulos and the head of police Tzavaras, who were present during the interrogation. Pagratidis’ response was, "You will have my blood on your hands." After this failed identification, Athanasopoulos and Tzavaras ‘reprimanded’ her, according to her courtroom statement.
It is worth noting the following: Pagratidis’ investigation ends in November 1964, when the order is also issued for his pre-trial detention in the prisons of Eptapyrgio (Yedi Kule). Six months later, after the judicial council’s ruling referring him to trial before the Five-Member Court has already been issued, in May 1965, Tsampazi gives an interview about the Dragon and Pagratidis to the newspaper "Acropolis." There she states that she was never summoned from the Police to attend any of the reconstructions of the Municipal Hospital crime. As she herself testifies at the Dragon trial eight months later, following this interview, prosecutor Athanasopoulos summoned her to account for her statements and informed her that if she if she repeated such actions, she would be the one facing charges in court.
