Nikolaos Panagopoulos
Inspector of Northern Greece at the time of the arrest of Aristidis Pagratidis for the orphanage attack (1963). Major General and Deputy Chief of the Police during the period when Pagratidis is being questioned by state prosecutor Ioannis Kioussis (1965). In 1967, having meanwhile been promoted to Lieutenant General, he serves as Chief of the Police.
Present during the first three days of Pagratidis’ interrogation at the police. Pagratidis confides in Panagopoulos within the very first 24 hours—specifically on the morning of 8 December 1963—that he is innocent of the Seich Sou crimes. Pagratidis’ claims regarding this fact are confirmed by Panagopoulos himself two years later, in his testimony before prosecutor Ioannis Kioussis.
